    Linear Congruences

    Hi, I was reading about the chinese remainder theorem and I did not get how

    17x = 9(mod 3) is same as x = 0(mod 3)
    17x = 9(mod 4) is same as x = 1(mod 4)

    *where "=" is congruent relation simple*

    could anyone help me understand this please

    Note that 17\equiv 1 (\bmod\, 3) \mbox { and}\,\, 9\equiv 0 (\bmod\, 3)

    Something simmilar occurs with \bmod\, 4
