Hi anybody please help me

onsider Efron’s non-transitive dice where the 6 faces as are in the table below.

Die A 0 0 4 4 4 4

Die B 3 3 3 3 3 3

Die C 2 2 2 2 6 6

Die D 1 1 1 5 5 5

Suppose there are four players in the game and each will choose one die and roll it. The person

who rolls the smallest number will be eliminated. For each die, calculate the probability that

the smallest number observed occurs on that die. Now which die would you choose (assuming

you want to stay in the game rather than reading a good book, having root canal work, etc.)? - Feb 8th 2013, 08:46 AMHallsofIvyRe: Mathematics solution
For die A the probability of "0" is 1/3, for "4", 2/3.

For die B the probability of "3" is 1.

For die C the probability of "2" is 2/3, for "6" is 1/3.

For die D the probability of "1" is 1/2, for "5" is 1/2.

If A is a "0", which has probability 1/3, it is certain to be lowest. If A is a "4", which has probability 2/3, it cannot be lowest since B will be "3".

The probability A is lowest is 1/3.

B must roll "3" and that will be lowest if A is "4" (probabililty 2/3), C is "6" (probability 1/3), and D is "5" (probability 1/2). The probability of all those is (2/3)(1/3)(1/2)= 1/9.

Can you do the same calculation for dice C and D? - Feb 8th 2013, 10:18 AMehabRe: Mathematics solution
