Where is Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics, used in real life.
Dear friends,
I certainly hope some of you could help me here.
I have done maths till grade 12, of which now I know nothing.
I have done discrete maths in my first year of graduation, of which now I know nothing.
I want to learn maths, but confused about what stream shall I follow, like Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics.
At this moment I really need to know which steam of maths is used where in real life, when I was in school no one ever explained as which stream is used where in real world.
I really hope someone can help me here.
Kind Regards
Adofo

Well, what are you planning to do? I assume you are going to college- if you are planning to go into any kind of science, or engineering, architecture, etc. Take Calculus if you can- "precalculus" or "algebra" if you are not yet ready for Calculus yet. And once you have determined on a major, the math courses you will need will be part of the "required" courses for that major. In any case, talk to your advisor in college about what you want to do and what you are interested in. He/she will be able to guide you better that way.

Hi Hallsofivy,
I have already done college and do not intend to go again.
The two fields I am interested in are.
1. Probability and Finance
2. Computer security
I understand these both fields require maths streams (may be they are different streams). I intend to learn on my own, without going to college, as college adds too much pressure on me.
So you know what streams shall I be looking at?
