hi my name is mikael i am 22 years old and in my second year at luleå technical university, computer engineering.
at highschool i didnt care fore math, so i got many "holes" in my understanding.
i have completed university courses that are equavalent to calc 1 -3, differential eq and complex nrs, linear algebra, descrete mathematics.
i got 3 out of 5 in most of them, equvalent of a c a think.
last year i wanted to start studying math on my spare time, but cause of lack of direction, the whole year dissapeard to fast without much studying done, and it scared me.
i want to study real analysis on my own, but i cant decid on one thing.
do you think i should maby start with pre-calc and restudy all my courses at home until i master them.
i think it would take a year.
but then i would get the feeling of "wasted" another year.
or it ok to proceed on this shaky bakground, and if i encounter something i dont know in my head, i just go to my books for referense.
ex if i encounter a concept that uses mean value theorem, then i just dust of adams calc and start studying that untill it comes back to me, then i proceed to learn this new concept.
this way i fill the "holes" and moving foward at the same time.
do you guys think this is a good method, or what would you do?
my goal is to work as an engineer until i am economicly stable, maby ten years, while i work, i selfstudy math.
then when the time is right, i work my way to grad school, and become i mathematician.
i have only one life, and with it i want to undertsand mathematics to a level, few care to reach.
