if x ≤ y and 1/08/2010 ≤ y ≤ 31/07/2011 or x > y and 1/08/2010 ≤ x ≤ 31/07/2011. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you

I would be careful with the word "between".
Some may assume that it means literally between,
. . not including the end dates.
