2. ## Re: Adding Fractions

Hello, Cecelia91!

I don't understand how to do this question.

. . . $\displaystyle 2\tfrac{1}{4}+ 5\tfrac{5}{6}$

Exactly what is it that you don't understand?

If you can't add fractions at all,
. . you need more help than we can provide.

Convert each to an improper fraction.
Get a common denominator.
Add the numerators.
Write as a mixed number.

Another approach:

$\displaystyle 2\frac{1}{4}+5\frac{5}{6}=2+\frac{1}{4}+6-\frac{1}{6}=8+\frac{3}{12}-\frac{2}{12}=8+\frac{1}{12}=8\frac{1}{12}$
