Some punctuation would be nice, so that we know exactly what you are asking... Are you asking what does this equal: \displaystyle \displaystyle \begin{align*} \left[ \frac{1}{5} \textrm{ of } \left( 1 + \frac{1}{4} \right) \right] + \left( 1 + \frac{1}{4} \right) \end{align*}?

What I mean is, "If you added a fifth of one, and a quarter to one, and a quarter" is different to "If you added a fifth of one and a quarter, to one and a quarter". There are many other interpretations of that question...

yeah understood. iv been taking my frustration out on this book the whole night.. Thats all the question says. I know what the answer is 1 1/2 but i just need to know how to work it out for my test tomorrow.
