Thread: xy coordinate plane problem

Ok, before I start, there is a graph with this problem. Draw an XY coordinate plane first, the plot the points (0,4) and (-5,0) then draw a line through them and that is line L. Ok here is the problem.

The figure above shows Line L in the xy-coordinate plane. Line m (not shown) is obtained by horizontally translating each point on Line L 2 units to the left. If the equation for line m is y= 4/5x+ K, what is the value of K?

If every point on the line is "translated 2 units to the left", (0, 4) is translated to (-2, 4) and (-5, 0) is translated to (-7, 0). You are told that the equation is of the form "y= (4/5)x+ k" so a simple way to find k is to put either x= -2 and y= 4 or x= -7, y= 0 into that equation and solve for k.
