In case you haven't come across this story already, I thought it was interesting, and relevant to these forums.
(I didn't see a Math "news" section; hopefully, this sub-forum is as good as any.)

"Unknown Mathematician Proves Elusive Property of Prime Numbers"

Reprinted on Wired from the original story on the Simons Foundation website:

"Together and Alone, Closing the Prime Gap"

Normally, I don't read Math news, but this story was circulating among my contacts on LinkedIn, so I checked it out.
The article is actually very good, and easy to understand, even if you don't have a PhD in Mathematics.
And the overall story is pleasant: somebody working alone for years and finally making a breakthrough. Good to see it can all be worthwhile.
