    Am I the only one?

    Hello Everyone,

I'm a Computer Science student taking a Calculus course for this semester. I'm doing very well with a high GPA, though I don't consider myself a smart student. I just memorize the facts and do the tests ( I know this is not good).
I would like to make the fact that English is not my first language the problem for my understanding of Calculus, but it's obviously not. I can understand English very well, but I cannot understand my Calculus course.
Am I the only one? Do you have any successful stories that can motivate me and lead me on the right path?
Note: I honestly don't read my calculus book as often as needed, I just go straight to the problem and try to solve it

I'm on a self-pace course so I can take a little bit longer on this unit. I'm trying to find the motivation to continue this course and not stay behind.

    Thanks.

Regardless of whether you are struggling, the fact that you recognize that this isn't good, shows that there is hope for you yet. A lot of people have so much trouble understanding math that they conclude that it IS just memorization with no logic to it. My suggestion is to gain an understanding of the concepts, learn WHY things are the way they are, seek out patterns, and precisely understand the definitions. In the long run it will help you way more than memorizing exactly what to do.
    Thanks from Shakarri
