Thread: Does a significant interest in math change who you are?

Firstly, I'm an engineer student by discipline. I had such an interest in math it has now taken over my life.

I'm now at a stage where, I find it hard to be involved with social communication?

I often find myself just staring at 'something' so as to keep my eyes occupied, when through mind-set, I'm like;

Riemann...SURFACE

Directional...DERIVATIVE

Are there any members out there like this? Is this natural?

I am an average mathematician who spends a lot of time thinking about math, I even write about math on my website dead end math. That being said, I don't have a problem talking to people about anything. I think about what they say in a very analytical way, sometimes to the point it seems comical. But overall, I leave my compulsions on my whiteboards.

I think you should write about what you like to talk about, write up your thoughts in Latex. Then you can post it online for people to see, like on Scribd. See how many other people take interest and make comments, heck you should also post your thoughts on here. It is a math forum after all. Then maybe you will not think about all these mathematical conjectures during your regular social conversations.

Definitely changed me and I haven't even gone far in math. I'm not sure how it changed me. I don't have a problem talking to people but I do feel that I understand some things better than I did before.
