That is a copyrighted text book is it not? Any one except the publisher or a bookstore sending you a pdf copy would be commiting a Federal Crime.

Listen dude. How many movies have you torrented this month? I'm trying to get a book to refresh myself with ODEs. That's all. I don't consider myself a criminal. Thanks for your great and wonderful input though.

None at all- does that surprise you? I'm sure you don't consider yourself a criminal. I have know people who believed that shop lifting was a crime. Those people are immoral. I have absolutely no problem with you "trying to get a book". I have a serious problem with you trying to steal a book- and, unless I completely misunderstood and you intended to pay for that down load, then you were not only trying to steal a book, you were trying to get people to help you steal.

Did einstein ask for a dollar when he published?

I have a student that I need to help and I'm very poor. Unfortunately, out=r existence disallows the flow of knowlege to po' folk. I sorry that you were online at the same time I was.

Halls is correct. MHF cannot sanction items that are pirated. If it helps I did some digging on the net and found a copy for $50. (About half way down the page.) That's probably the best you are going to get.

Well, that's easily fixed. Since you feel that being poor (been there myself) excuses commiting a crime, why not just go rob a bank?

Hmm... Is downloading really stealing in the same way as robbing a bank or shop lifting? When you rob a bank and steal money, the money in the bank is not there when you leave. Downloading a book on the internet will still leave the original in exactly were it was the moment before you did make a copy.

After that you can start the discussion wethever it's bad/good or immoral, and maybe also talking about if it's possible to actually own an idea. But for further discussion of that I think there should me a thread in another part of this forum.
