When you solve an equation, how does it make you feel? Why do you open a book and solve every equation in it and after doing so what do you feel? Is it like an actually adreneline rush like riding on a rollercoaster or what? Why do you guys continue to pursue maths.
Allow me to quote Henri Poincaré:
Is mathematical analysis...only a vain play of the mind? It can give to the physicist only a convenient language; is this not a mediocre service, which, strictly speaking, could be done without; and even is it not to be feared that this artificial language may be a veil interposed between reality and the eye of the physicist? Far from it; without this language most of the intimate analogies of things would have remained forever unknown to us; and we should forever have been ignorant of the internal harmony of the world, which is...the only true objective reality.
I prefer reading than solving exercises. I usualy compare what I feel when reading in a good area of mathematics to what someone feels like when they are contemplating a diamond. It's perfect, without defect, shiny, transparent and valuable. Mathematics is like a mental diamond.
The certainty that math provides in a very uncertain world makes it a place where i can keep coming back to escape real life. Till i die, i never have certainty in life but at least in mathematics, i can know that mathematical certainty lies within my grasp.
I really like the rigorous and formal structure that mathematics has, as well as the challenges that it provides. Nothing is better than a clear and well-defined problem that is not easy to solve.
