Thread: CRB Check for Personal Tutoring in UK

I am interesting in tutoring Maths GCSE and I was wondering if I would need to get a CRB check to do this.

My parents and brother have been CRB checked as they work with children and teenagers which makes me think that I may have to have the same check done.

Can anyone help with this?

Do you want to work in a tuition centre? If so then yes, usually.

Do you want to do free-lance tutoring? If so, then usually not.

I would do free-lance as I have a few parents asking me to tutor their children but I've rejected the offers as I was not sure if I needed to be checked or not.

Why not just get the check? Then you don't need to knock them back...

Get the check. Parents have every right to ask you and you don't have it they may go to another tutor. Having said that I've never been asked for any evidence of anything!

Plus, it's only natural for parents to want to make sure that their children will be safe. You wouldn't want to send them to a paedophile to be tutored, for example...
