Thread: How to convert results of one ratio into another?

I'm not sure if I'm asking this question right, but I'm trying to figure out how to convert from one ratio to another and change a value (X) as a result of that change.

For instance, if X = 5 for the ratio 1/4, how do I figure out what would X be if that ratio was changed to 1/10?

First of all, 1/4 is not a ratio, it's a fraction. It means that for every four parts of something, there is one part of one commodity and three parts of another...

Now, which commodity does the x = 5 represent? The first which has one part, or the second which has three parts?

X actually represents the distance from a point of entry in a Futures contract. In the ES market, it's 4 ticks per point, hence 1/4 and I know that 5 ticks past a certain point works with a 4 ticks market. In the TF market, it's 10 ticks per point, hence 1/10. I need to convert between these so that I know what is equivalent per market depending on the number of ticks per point. Sadly, it has been a while since I really worked with fractions, so I'm stuck on this.
