Mathematical notation for clipping

Is there a standard mathematical notation for restricting a scalar or an array of scalars to a range? I'm wanting to document a mathematical model that relies on value clipping such as that implemented by Python/numpy's 'clip' function (numpy.clip — NumPy v1.8.dev-63cd8f3 Manual (DRAFT)).

Cheers,

Will

Re: Mathematical notation for clipping

I don't think there is a standard notation, A Ph.D. dissertation I am reading introduces the notation $\displaystyle a^{\bot b}$ for min(a, b) (i.e., a, but not higher than b) and $\displaystyle a_{\top b}$ for max(a, b) (a, but not lower than b). Correspondingly, $\displaystyle a^{\bot c}_{\top b}$ is either min(max(a, b), c) or max(min(a, c), b), which are the same thing when b <= c.

Thanks emakarov, that looks like a sensible notation.
