Thread: Need Help With An Equation

I need some help with an equation, but cannot figure out what board it should be posted in. I have no idea what kind of math this equation is. Will the modertor please move this topic to the correct board?

I'm working on a board board game that can also be converted to a video game. So it has to work both ways. I'm trying to write out it's equation properly. Tell me if this makes sense or is incorrect(most likely).

[ ( Skill – Ward = Difference ) + ( 1d100 = Fate ) = Attempt ] IF ( Attempt > 1) + ( Modifiers ) = Result

I'm not sure if I'm writing the equation correctly. The biggest problem I have with writing this is: if Attempt < 1, the equation ends. If Attempt > 1 then the equation continues. Does that make sense?

Hmmmm....why is that "an equation" ?

Because an example equation in action would look like this:

[ ( 75 – 50 = 25 ) + ( 1d100 = 25 ) = 50 ] IF ( 50 > 1) + ( 125 ) = 175

D = S + W
F = 1d100 (whatever the heck that is!)
A = Attempt = D + F
M = Modifiers
R = Result

IF A =< 1 then end else R = A + M

That reads like variables and a PHP statement, lol.

1d100 means rolling a hundred sided die one time. Or in other words, a random number between 1-100.

Yes...and that's what equations are made up of: variables!

I just have a homework question I've been stuck on and hoping you guys can help me out a bit.
COnsider the number 48. If you add 1 to it, you get 49, which is a perfect square. If you add 1 to its (1/2), you get 25, which is also a perfect square. Please find the next 2 numbers with the same properties. like 48+1=49 (perfect square)
48/2=24, 24+1=25 (perfect square)
