Thread: Elastic vand inelastic collision

A 5-kg shell is fired from a gun which has a mass of 6000Kg.If the gun recoils with a velocity of 3m/s,find the muzzle velocity of the shell?

Attempt:
(5)(0)+(6000)(-3)=V(5+6000)

I don't know if i am doing it correct?

initial momentum of the system = final momentum = 0

(5 kg)v + (6000 kg)(-3 m/s) = 0

v = 3600 m/s
