A ball is dropped off a ledge... (Physics)
Quote:

A ball is dropped off a ledge How far does it fall in the 2nd second?
Could someone explain why it's 14.7? Shouldn't it be 19.6 meters?

apparently by "in the 2nd second" it means "between time = 1 second and time = 2 seconds"

the question was vaguely posed.

Hello, iamanoobatmath!

There's nothing wrong with your math,
. . but you misread the problem.

They want the distance it fell during the 2nd second
. . . . . between $t=1$ and $t = 2$.

(Yes, I agree . . . very sneaky!)
