Mechanics - Connected particles

A block of mass 2 kg, slides on a rough horizontal table. It is attached by a light inextensible string to a 3 kg mass. If the block accelerates at 4.9 ms^-2 find the co-efficient of friction between the block and the table

I have no idea how to do this. Any help appreciated.

Since the only horizontal forces acting on the 2kg mass are in the opposite direction to its motion (tension force and friction force), I don't see how it can have a positive acceleration (4.9 ms^-2) ....
