    Specific Gravity

    Hello,

    How do I calculate the following specific gravity.

    Chemical A = SG of 1.2
    Water = SG 1

    I add 11 litres of water to 5 litres of Chemical A which gives me approx 4.84% solution

    Now - I do not have a hydrometer - so is there a formula to calculate the Specific Gravity of the final solution.

    All clues will be appreciated

    Sorry if this answer comes rather late.

    The specific gravity of chemical A is 1.2 means it's 1.2 times as dense as water; in other words, if you have equal volumes of water and chemical A, the mass of chemical A is 1.2 times the mass of the water. A litre of water has a mass of 1 kg, so if you mix 11 litres of water and 5 litres of chemical A, the total mass is

    11 + 5\times 1.2 = 17 kg.

    And the volume is 11 + 5 = 16 litres.

    So the specific gravity of the mixture is \frac{17}{16}= 1.0625

    I hope that helps.
