haha, thanks. somehow in my head i thought i had used the 6 instead of an extra 7

There are 1680 possible combinations, alot of them don't work out. I don't know the answer just letting you know the probability of solving randomly.

(7-5)*9+6=24

Of course, not every 4 digit number will eventually get you to 24. more numbers will do.

ya i just did a quick estimation then hit post.. realized it was wrong and didn't feel like getting a correct equation for it.
