    Thumbs down plz help me in this chemistry problem

    a good time!

    i understand the meaning of REDUCTION and OXIDIZATION in ELECTROCHEMISTRY.But it does not make any sense to me in chemical reactions.For example "THIS REDUCES TO THAT".I don't really understand it.Will someone make it clear to me?
    PLZ CLEAR IT WITH SOME EXAMPLES!

    Hey

    Hello.

    Reduction is the process whereby a species gains electrons from another species. This is also known as the oxidation-reduction pair and one CANNOT occur without the other.

    An example of a reduction of a species is as follows:

    Zn2+ + 2e- ----> Zn

    In this example Zinc ions were reduced (gained electrons) to produce a zinc atom.

    And... this is sort of like a math forum. :P
