1. ## chemistry problems

These are review problems that are problems from grade 10 which I have no content for.

1. Calculate the maximum number of electrons with the following principal quantum number, n:

a)1
b)2
c)3
d)4

2. Identify the number of sigma and pi bonds in each of these compounds.

a) H2O(l)
b) C2H2(g)
c) C2H4(g)
d) C2H6(g)

3. Identify the typed of hybrid orbitals found in molecules of the following substances

a) CCl4(l)
b) BH3(g)
c) BeI2(s)
d) SiH4(g)

a) CCl4(l)
b) BH3(g)
c) BeI2(s)
d) SiH4(g)
1/
a) $1s^2=2$

b) $1s^2,2s^2,2p^6=10$

c) $1s^2,2s^2,2p^6,3s^2,3p^6=18$

d) $1s^2,2s^2,2p^6,3s^2,3p^6,4s^2,3d^{10},4s^2=32$

3. For the second one, draw out the compounds!

Where there is a single bond it will be one sigma bond
for a double bond there will one sigma bond and one pi bond
for a triple bond there will be one sigma bond and two pi bonds

For the third look at the geometry of the molecule (around the central atom)

if it is tetrahedral it will be sp3 hybridised
if it is trigonal planer it will be sp2 hybridised
if it is linear it will be sp hybrised
