Exclamation Wonder if someone can explain something for me

I am having trouble understanding why the below volumes do not work out the same. This is part of a conversion I was doing and I think this is the part that was making come up with the wrong overall answer.

    I had to convert 2.00 ft3 to cm3.

    I converted to inches first.

    I did:

    2 x 12 x12 x12 = 3456 in3 (which I think is correct)

    I also tried:

    24 x 24 x 24 = 13824 in3

24 inches is 2.00 ft right? so why does it not work out the same?

I would of thought the 24 inch cube is the same as a 2ft cube?

It seems like I am using the same volume in both sums but coming up with diffrent answers.

    Yes, that is correct.

Because this is "2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet" which is 2(2)(2)= 8 cubic feet, not two. Since 2(4)= 8, this is exactly 4 times too large: 12824/4= 3456.

I would of thought the 24 inch cube is the same as a 2ft cube?

It seems like I am using the same volume in both sums but coming up with diffrent answers.

    Talking

    I think I see now

By doing 24 x 24 x 24 I am multiplying the cube and making it bigger.
