    inequalties

    1/4x - 1/2x>3
    solve the inequality and sketch your solution on the number line. Use a test value to check your solution.

    <---I---I---I---I---I---I---I---I--->

    \frac14x - \frac12x>3

    x(\frac14 - \frac12)>3

    x(\frac14 - \frac24)>3

    x(-\frac14)>3

    -3> x(\frac14)

    -3*4 > x

    x < -12

    So on your number line, just find -12, then draw an arrow from -12 all the way down towards the left.

    To test a value of x, you may choose any x less than -12, so try -15. When you plug it into \frac14x - \frac12x>3, you should get a number >3.
