$\displaystyle x(\frac14 - \frac24)$__>__3

$\displaystyle x(-\frac14)$__>__3

-3__>__$\displaystyle x(\frac14)$

$\displaystyle -3*4$__>__x

x__<__-12

So on your number line, just find -12, then draw an arrow from -12 all the way down towards the left.

To test a value of x, you may choose any x less than -12, so try -15. When you plug it into $\displaystyle \frac14x - \frac12x$__>__3, you should get a number__>__3.
