Word Problem -- thanks for looking/helping!
Here's a word problem I want verification that I'm "getting it"
Let me know the steps involved

In 24 years, Herbert's age in years will be twice Jack's age in years.
is A>B B>A or A=B?
A: Jack's age now if Herbert is 34
B: 10

Here's what I was thinking:
Is the algebra herbert’s age in 24 yrs equals twice jacks age in 24 years?
H + 24 = 2 (J + 24) which incidentally turns out to be
H + 24 = 2J herberts age in 24 years is twice jacks age (now) weird!

If J was 10, then herberts age would be negative… by this eqn.
And if H = 34, then J = 29.

I donno, what do you think ?

There is a mistake here: you should get H=2J+24

If, in 24 years, Herbert's age will be twice Jack's age, then

\$\displaystyle H + 24 = 2(J + 24)\$.

But this gives \$\displaystyle H + 24 = 2J + 48 \$.

yes I made a typo, i meant to write what you did.

Quote: "There is a mistake here: you should get H=2J+24"
(i don't see anywhere to type in a quote box...)

H + 24 = 2 (J + 24)
H=2J + 24

Prove It, you said:
"But this gives http://www.mathhelpforum.com/math-he...503c3c95-1.gif."

So you are agreeing to the layout of this problem that I thought of?
cool,
thanks
