This problem is easy enough to work out ,but I have not been able to solve it by making an equation. Please help me set up an equation for these types of problems as some of them are much more complicated and involve percentages etc.

Levy and David make $4680 per month. Levy makes $520 more than David, how much does Levy make per month?

The key is to define your unknowns.

Let x = money made by Levy.
Let y = money made by David.

x + y = 4680 .... (1)

x = y + 520 .... (2)

Solve equations (1) and (2) simultaneously.

So
(y+520)+y=4680
2y=4160
y=2080

x+2080=4680
x=2600
