I believe this is the equation you are looking for:

2m*3 = 5m - 3/4
6m=5m-3/4
m=-3/4

Hope this helps.

Hello, FiyWonOhh!

If we're careful, we can translate the words directly into Algebra.

Quote:

The product of twice a number and 3 is the same as the difference of 5 times the number and 3/4.

Find the number.

Let $x$ = the number.

$\underbrace{\text{ product of twice a number and 3 }}\;\underbrace{\text{ is the same as }}$ $\underbrace{\text{ the difference of 5 times the number and 3/4 }}$
. . . . . . . . $(2x)\cdot 3$. . . . . . . . . . . . . . $=$ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $5x \;- \;\frac{3}{4}$

And there is our equation! $\hdots\quad 6x \;=\;5x - \frac{3}{4}$
