# Math Help - Equation of Line Help

1. ## Equation of Line Help

Okay so im doing EQAO practice assignments but they still count for marks. So here is a question and when there is something like this 1/4 thats a fraction.

Rearrange 4y-x=8 in the form y=mx+b

a) y=x+b

b) y=-x+2

c) y=1/4x+2

d) y=-1/4x+2
Look for my name please because i might have other problems. Thanks for the Help.

2. $4y - x = 8$

What's the problem? You simply solve for y as if it is an algebra problem:
$4y = x + 8$ (added x to both sides)

Divide both sides by 4 ... etc. etc.

3. Lol my problem is that i completely stink at math its the only subject im almost failing.

What we want to do here is solve for y:

$4y-x=8$

Add x to both sides:

$4y-x{\color{red}+x}=8{\color{red}+x} \implies 4y=x+8$

Divide both sides by four:

$\frac{4y}{{\color{red}4}}=\frac{x+8}{{\color{red}4 }} \implies \color{red}\boxed{y=\frac{1}{4}x+2}$

The best answer would be C.

Hope this makes sense!
