Combatting lazy police in the uk

Hello, Steve here from England, please could someone help me? ( I am NOT mathematically knowledgeable by the way!)

I need to confirm that a maths formula will provide me with the correct data to combat a speeding problem in my road that the local police will do nothing about......

I need to prove that vehicles can accelerate and achieve high speeds within certain distances and that proof can be used to contradict a senior officers report.

so, I found D = Vo x T + 1/2 A x T xT and for example a car will achieve within 5 seconds a distance of 125ft, is that right?

I am using 10 for A ( 10ft/sec/sec ) and half that for motor cycles?

any help gratefully received, I would absoultely love to shove some mathematical data up his snotty nose, 'cos you just can't argue it!!

Let me comment only on your computations. As for what you and the officer argue about, I am out---because you did not mention what was it exactly, what his report was, how would distance computations combat speeding problems,....

Yes, if the acceleration is 10 ft/sec/sec, then a car from rest will cover 125 ft in 5 seconds:
d = (Vo)t +(1/2)*a*t*t
d = (0)(5) +(1/2)*10*5*5
d = 125 ft.

Without knowing more about the roadway design and even the surface, it's difficult to come up with an ideal solution. I do have a recommendation, however. I suspect that there will be, somewhere nearby, a police officer known as a collision analyst, a traffic analyst, or a motor vehicle collision reconstructionist. If you can speak with this person and have them take a look at the roadway, you may get somewhere. They usually have a sufficient grasp of the physics involved and often point out such hazards to the roadway authorities. If he looks at the roadway and agrees with you that there is a problem, he may be able to ensure that it is patrolled more frequently, or radar is set up, or some solution agreeable to yourself is reached.
