Is th question;
11 is 4.4% of ?
3 is 0.75% of?
How do I figure out the answer?
perhaps you'll understand it this way
vocabulary lesson:
"percent" means "over 100" so, for instance, 25% means 25/100 = 0.25, 50% means 50/100 = 0.5 etc
"of" in math usually means "multiply". so 50% of x means "50/100 * x"
"is" of course, means "equal"
so in the first, let the number we are looking for be x
we are told, 11 is 4.4% of x
translating this to math, using our vocabulary, we have:
11 = 4.4/100 * x
=> 11 * 100/4.4 = x
and you can simplify that
do the other one similar
yeap! I get it now
That's for explaining it to me hehe dont mean to be a bother
i dont know why, but in school they always rush past stuff like
im supposed to already know automatically
then i come on here lately, ask a question, someone breaks it down,
and i get it.
then i make a flash card with the rules for each, plus examples to help
me practice remembering.
i dont know why they just dont explain stuff like they do on here. it would
make learning easier for me
they tell you for like 5 mins, then say practice that. the next day test,
the next something new like we are racing to a finish line
someone in my class said the same thing last week, so i emailed my notes from a question i asked here, an he said the same thing... "wow, got it"
think teachers make stuff harder than it has to be on purpose hehe
thanks again guys! im on here a lot the past few days because this site is so awesome, you get like instant help sometimes, an everything gets explained in a simple way too its cool and nobody gets mad if you ask stuff
i think it's because teachers always have other concerns on their mind. remember, they have a certain amount of topics that they must cover by the time the semester ends. maybe they don't want to be stuck in the middle or something, so they rush. also, sometimes when you've been seeing something your whole life, you forget what it was like the first time you saw it. now that it's easy to you, you forget that it was hard the first time you saw it and therefore may be hard to someone else seeing it for the first time. or maybe, they were geniuses and everything was easy to them the first time, so they misjudge the ability of others, who knows.
