    putting it another way...

    1 / (302 -3 ) +1 / (117-3)
    ...

    what is the answer.? do you go 299 divided by 1 first then plus 1?

    Hello,

    first you have to do the calculation in the brackets. You'll get: \frac{1}{299}-\frac{1}{114}
    Next you need a common denominator
    Prime factorisation of
    299 = 13 * 23
    114 = 2 * 3 * 19

    So the common denominator is 114 * 299 = 34086

    Transform your fractions (don't clculate the denominator, it isn't necessary yet!)

    \frac{1}{299} \cdot \frac{114}{114}-\frac{1}{114}\cdot \frac{299}{299} = \frac{-185}{114 \cdot 299}
