    Best Math Grade For Tutoring

I was told that tutoring college students is the worst experience in terms of teaching. College students never have money and they, for the most part, do not seek long-term tutoring. I do not ask the following question because I have some desire to someday be a math tutor.

I ask the question for the sake of curiousity. I want to know what you have to say about math tutoring as a part-time job. What is the best grade to math tutor? Would you say grades 1-5 or 6-8 ( middle school) or 9-12 ( high school)? What do you honestly think?

See if you can part-time tutor in a mathematics laboratory in a college or a university if you have
at least a bachelor's degree or are a student there without enough courses that the lab
co-ordinator would approve. You would be paid by the institution. At do it if you are being paid
by the hour, and depending on the rate per hour. I have been a part-time math tutor at at least
four colleges/universities. I didn't have to worry about the students individually paying me
    for the tutoring.

I understand what you are saying.
Here are three reasons why math lab tutoring is not for me:

    1. Math labs usually want students who are majoring in math or computer science. They are not interested in hiring people who graduated from college over 20 years ago.

    2. Private math tutors set their own rate per hour.

    3. I am not ready to tutor at the college level. I might be able to help remedial math students but nothing beyond that level of math.

Once you are ready to tutor, you can volunteer to do so through the local library. Of course, you don't get paid. In my case, I am retired so being paid is not important.

As for whom to tutor, I have found that I am ineffective with children: it has been too long since I had children running around to gear my mind down to their lack of abstraction. I work primarily with high school students or adults.

When I was in graduate school, I made some money tutoring in the computer lab. That is more about answering specific questions than trying to explain concepts.

Cool. Someone told me that middle school and high school is the best tutoring level. I am not ready for college math tutoring other than, perhaps, remedial math courses, which mainly covers prealgebra material.
