# Thread: Pie Graph help (Gr 8)

1. ## Pie Graph help (Gr 8)

Hello, I'm in grade 8 looking for help on pie graphs. I know how to do them and place the angles with a protractor but I was wondering about a few things.

The assignment I was given was to put what you did in 24 hours.

My three things were school, sleeping, watching tv/eating.

School: 7hours
Sleeping: 9hours
Watchingtv/eating: 8hours

What I did was divided those numbers by 24 and got answers like: 0.29166666666 (7h/24) 0.375 (9h/24) 0.33333333333 (8h/24)

Then I had to multiply those numbers by 360 because of the pie graph.

My questions are when should the decimal stop in those numbers because I wouldn't put 0.2916666666666 x 360

2. ## Re: Pie Graph help (Gr 8)

why mess with the decimals?

$\dfrac{7}{24} \cdot 360 = 105$

$\dfrac{8}{24} \cdot 360 = 120$

$\dfrac{9}{24} \cdot 360 = 135$

each hr is 15 degrees

Omg, thanks so much. I wasn't at school in a few days so I had no idea what to do. Just wondering, how do I multiply the fraction on a calculator?

4. ## Re: Pie Graph help (Gr 8)

Sorry, completely missed what you said on the bottom! Also, how do I find the hr?

5. ## Re: Pie Graph help (Gr 8)

on your calculator, type $7 \div 24 \times 360 =$

$\dfrac{360^\circ}{24 \, hrs} = 15 \dfrac{degrees}{hr}$

Hey man, thanks so much for help and I'll come back if I ever need more! You saved my life.
