# Thread: Need some help with a bar chart

1. ## Need some help with a bar chart

Hi, I just need some help with a bar chart. I'm probably beind stupid, or its because its late, but whatever my mind is not catching on.... ha ha

the question is : "The following marks as percentages were obtained from 30 learners in your class.
16 20 50 59 63 69
25 38 51 60 64 70
23 38 52 65 65 71
28 39 53 61 67 77
29 45 54 61 68 79

Now, I have to represent the data in a bar graph. Stupid, I know. But for some reason I can't figure out the intervals I'm supposed to use. I feel like I'm being completely daft and my math phobia seems to be kicking in VERY strongly....

The lowest score is 16 and the highest is 79.
There's no hard and fast rule about choosing intervals.
I'd probably go with 10-19, 20-29, etc. That way you'll have 7 bars in your bar chart.

3. ## Re: Need some help with a bar chart

Ok thanks! Dont you think that it will be an issue that the original data points are lost? Would this be acceptable? I'm doing it for an assignment and REALLY need the marks....

In a bar graph, the original data IS lost. You could do a stem-and-leaf plot if you wanted to preserve the original data. What does the question actually say?
