i cannot figure out these story problems...i cant even figure out how to write the problem, and i dont have much time to work on it because i have 2 hours of volunteer later tonight and i have to write a personal narrative for Language, so i'll be busy for the better portion of the night. anyways, here they are....

10. A page in the yearbook is 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches. the left margin is .5 inches and the right margin is 2 1/2 inches wide. how wide should you make each picture to fit three pictures across the page?

number 10 was actually on our pretest, and almost no one made it..including me. i was able to get the stuff a lot of other kids missed, though, like those "V = LWH Solve for W" problems (which i couldnt figure out why anyone had trouble on, honestly..) but this and a few others i made dumb mistakes on got me...

2. Hello, Nightfire!

9. A page in the yearbook is 8 inches by 11 inches.
the left margin is ½ inch wide and the right margin is ½ inch wide.
There are ½-inch spaces between three pictures placed across the page.
How wide can each picture be?

Are you really having trouble with understanding the problem?
You may need more help than we can offer here . . .

The page is 8 inches wide.
There are three pictures, each is x inches wide.
There is a half-inch space between the pictures and on the ends.

The situation looks like this . . .
Code:
      : ½ : x : ½ : x : ½ : x : ½ :
*---*-------*---*-------*---*-------*---*
: ← - - - - - - - - 8 - - - - - - - - → :

Can you reason it out now?

3. oh wow, i hadnt even really looked at that..i was having trouble with #10, and saw that they were both the same..
#10 i wanted to figure out for the test, so i had completely skipped #9 >_>
im gonna guess each picture is 2 inches wide?

what would the equation be for that, though? drawing a picture works, but i need the equation as well..
