Investigate coordinate complex compounds and explain how and why Fe2+ ion is associated only with the o- phenanthroline.
- To my understanding, Fe2+ is a ligand and will be reacted with o - phenanthroline to create a co ordinate complex compound by binding to the central atom which is N? (Is it N it is bonding to) .
- Further more I researched that Ligands are electron donors but why would Fe2+that has already lost 2 electrons wan to donate more electrons rather that take from N?
- Also I do not understand why Fe2+is only related with o -phenanthroline because I know there are three isomers of phenanthroline: 1,10-phenanthroline,1-7-phenanthroline and 1,4-phenanthroline, and Fe2+ would have to react with N, so what is going on here....
- Finally how do I explain why and how Fe2+ only associated with 1,10-phenanthroline.
Thank you for your time.
