1. ## Help me sove this word problem please.

A rare species of insects was discovered in th amazon river forest. To protect the species envirementalists declare the species endangered. The populalation of the insects T months after being transplanted is given by P

P(t) 50(1+.5T)
_________

(2+.01T)

How many insects were discovered? what was the population at when T=0

I brought (2+.01T) over to the other side of the = sign and made p(t) 0

so I got

(2+.01T)(0)=50(1+.5t)

0= 50+25T.

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong, but am not able to see another way.

What am i doing wrong?

$\displaystyle P(t) = \frac{(50 + 25t)}{(2 + 0,1t)}$

$\displaystyle P(t) = (50 + 25t)(2 + 0,1t)^{-1}$

$\displaystyle P(t) = (50 + 25t)(0,5 + 10t^{-1})$

$\displaystyle P(t) = 25 + 500t^{-1} + 12,5t + 120$

$\displaystyle P(t) = 500t^{-1} + 12,5t + 145$

When t = 0

$\displaystyle P(0) = 500(0)^{-1} + 12,5(0) + 145$

$\displaystyle P(0) = 145$

I found out that 25 is the correct number of insects. When you make T=0 you get

50(1+.5(0))
__________
(2+.01(0)

What's in the paranthesis = 0 on the top, so your left with 50/2 = 25 insects discovered.
