    What Day Is It?

    Read the following dialogue below:
Alexis, Brandy, Chuck, Dilbert, Emmett, Florence, and Gilbert are having a
discussion about which day of the week it is. Here is their conversation:
Alexis: The day after tomorrow is Wednesday.
Brandy: No, it is Wednesday today.
Chuck: You are both wrong; it is Wednesday tomorrow.
Dilbert: Nonsense; today is neither Monday, Tuesday, nor Wednesday.
Emmett: I'm quite sure that yesterday was Thursday.
    Florence: No, tomorrow is Thursday.
Gilbert: All I know is that yesterday was not Saturday.

If only one of these remarks is true, then what day of the week is it?

    Thanks for any contributions!

    Re: What Day Is It?

    Call the statements A-G.
B and F both say that today is wednesday but they cannot both be right at the same time.
E implies D, if E were true then D would also be true so this cannot be the case
Same thing for G in place of E above.

The question doesn't have a solution. If today is monday then Alexis is right and everyone else is wrong, if today is tuesday then Bandy is right and everyone else is wrong, if today is thursday or saturday then Dilbert is right and everyone else is wrong.

    Re: What Day Is It?

One obvious point is that if Gilbert was wrong then yesterday was Saturday so today is Sunday.
    Then:
Alexis is wrong- the day after tomorrow is Tuesday, not Wednesday.
Brandy is wrong- today is Sunday, not Wednesday.
Chuck is wrong- tomorrow is Monday, not Wednesday.
Dilbert is right- today is neither Monday, Tuesday, nor Wednesday.
Emmet is wrong, yesterday was Saturday, not Thursday.
Florence is wrong, tomorrow is Monday, not Thursday.
and, of course, Gilbert was wrong.

So exactly one of them, Dilbert, is right.
