Thread: Need help with fraction problem for homework.

Ramon and his wife Josephine have to paint their bedroom. Ramon paints 3/4 of the room and Josephine paints 2/5 of the rest. What fraction of the room remains to be painted?

I can't get it. If you solve it, can you please tell me how you did it? This way I understand for the test. Please and thank you )

Hint: x% of something is x/100. The rest of something left is 100% - percent that is gone.

I'll start you off by saying the rest that is left is (1-3/4) = 1/4 = 0.25 or 25% of the room.

Ramon paints 75% of the room, and Josephine paints 40% of whats left. There is 25% left and 40% of 25 is 10%. 25% - 10% is 15. So that leaves 15/100 left, or 3/20.
