Hello, marlene!

What are we given?

If you are given two points $\displaystyle (x_0, y_0)$ and $\displaystyle (x_1, y_1)$, then the slope of the line through those two points is given by $\displaystyle \frac{y_1- y_0}{x_1- x_0}$. If you are given an equation, say Ax+ By= C, you can solve for y, getting $\displaystyle y= -\frac{A}{B}x- \frac{C}{B}$ and the slope is $\displaystyle -\frac{A}{B}$.

Those formulas are given in any Calculus text aren't they?
