How many times bigger is main voltage than the voltage of car battery?

Hi this is my home work:

How many times bigger is main voltage than the voltage of car battery?

is it: 240v/12v ?

or do we need to convert 240v AC to DC first than divide it to 12v?

You can't convert an AC voltage to a DC voltage. The concept makes no sense. On the other hand you can find the rms value of the AC voltage...
