1. ## Factor the trinomials

Hey guys,

The task: Factor the trinomials and write each as the product of its factors.

1.
x^2 -10x -24

(x+2)(x-12)

2.
x^2 -9x +18

(x-3)(x-6)

3.
x^2 +14x +45

(x+5)(x+9)

4.
x^2 +6x -40

(x-4)(x+10)

Do I have the right answers? What is meant by "write each as the product of its factors"???

2. ## Re: Factor the trinomials

You have done splendidly!

If a value a has the factors b and c then the product of the factors is just bc. You have written the quadratics as the product of their factors.

3. ## Re: Factor the trinomials

1.
x^2 -10x -24

Factor the trinomials = (x+2)(x-12)
Product of its factors = value of a=-24 has the factors b=+2 and c=-12 then the product of the factors is +2-12 = -10???

Am I getting this right???

4. ## Re: Factor the trinomials

You wish to find 2 factors of -24 whose sum is -10, and the pair you found, 2 and -12, fit the bill. You are doing well.

5. ## Re: Factor the trinomials

so, to write my answer correct for this task I should write:
Factor the trinomial: (x+2)(x-12)
Write trinomial as the product of its factors: product x^2 -10x -24 = factors (x+2)(x-12)

Is that right?
