Thread: Pre-Algebra question on intergers

Here is the question, I am self teaching myself also.

A 104 inch tablecloth covers a 7 foot long table. how many inches of cloth hang over the front, assuming the table is centered in the tablecloth?

I put the answer as 20 when the answer should be 10

Here is how I got 20. I divided 104 by 12 the 12 is for 12 inch = 1 foot. I got 8 remainder 8. So I did this as 8 feet 8 inches. Then I did 104 - 84 = 20. I got 84 because for the table size in inches. So that how I go 20. How is the answer 10. I checked the back of the book after I finished and it say's 10.

What's the solution, does it have to do anything with the word "centered".

Yes. There will 10 inches hanging at the "front" and ten inches at the "back".
