I am trying to learn how to multiply large numbers in columns in my head as in
1593
x 762
-----
But I keep getting it wrong. Would anyone be so nice as to look at the attachments in this post and figure out how stupid I am being, then tell me the right way to do it? I was getting on ok with my workbook up until this point. It goes ok when I do like 76 x 43 but when I go into triple digits or more I just get it plain wrong all the time. Now I know i could use a calculator but that would not be cultivating true Math skills.
Please help. I'm from Essex you know....

I still keep getting these wrong . I get the first 2 lines right but the last one wrong. You see the course I have started does not have this in, and I have been getting on ok with that. But I feel it has to be important to be able to do multiplication, addition, subtraction and division in this manor to consider yourself a competent mathematician.
Maybe I am worrying for nothing because none of the text books I have bought go into any great detail on how to do this if at all. I cont see how I could even dream of mastering Differential Equations and that stuff if I cant do this.
I shall keep at it.
