    word problems!!!

    A gallon of paint can cover an area of 385 square feet. How thick is the coat of paint in inches.

    gallon is talking about volume. how do we get the volume of something? it's the area of the base times the height (or in this case, the thickness)

    So in this case, let the thickness be T, then we have:

    \left( 385 \mbox { ft}^2 \right) T \mbox { ft} = 385T \mbox { ft}^3 = 1 \mbox {gallon} = 0.133680556 \mbox { ft}^3
