Thread: Transcendental Numbers paper - Looking for Advice

Hi,

I am writing a maths paper on the construction of transcendental numbers, mainly Liouville numbers, this is the first time I am writing a mathematics paper. I do not know whether I should write on a specific topic. This is my table of contents:

1) Polynomials - Definition of transcendental and algebraic number.
2) Transcendental Numbers are Uncountable
3) Construction of Transcendental numbers - Liouville Numbers
4) Continued Fractions and Liouville Numbers.

These were the instructions given to us:

"..You will have to understand definitions and work through theory before getting to the results you want. Once this has been done you will have to present these results in a readable, coherent form.."

I do not know whether to leave out the Polynomial and that the transcendental numbers are uncountable and go deeper into the Liouville numbers and the construction of transcendental numbers i.e. should I explain everything from scratch.

The purpose of this assignment is to give us experience in writing papers that a professor with do, so since some of your'll are professors, how will I go about writing a paper.

Is there any restriction about number of pages...?

Minimum 15, you can basically do as much as you want, but you must produce quality.
