Thread: Multiple choice questions: ions, and rusting

A solution contain Barium and Silver ions, what can the anion be?
A) Nitrate
B)Chloride
C)Sulphate
D)All of the above

I chose A, is this right?
2)
1)Stainless steel is alloying iron with other metals, it prevents rusting by eliminating oxygen.
2)Methods of preventing rusting are electroplating, galvanizing and painting.
Which statement is correct?
A)Both, statement 2 explains statement 1
B)Both, but statement 2 doesn't explain statement 1
C)Statement 1 is right, statement 2 is wrong
D)Statement 2 is right, statement 1 is wrong
I was not sure, but I thought that the alloy does not "eliminate" oxygen, it just changed the structure in a way that would not allow it to become oxidized that easily. So I choose D, is this right?

for 1) why cannot D) be wrong.

umm for 1 I know that D is wrong cuz barium forms a pricipitate with suphate ions, that left me with A and B.... (50% chance is high enough (-: )
Do you have any idea if question 2 is right?

yes, but i think even though two elements forms a pricipitate, that does not imply there are no ions in that particular element in the solution. because pricipitation makes a dynamic equilibrium ....

I can't believe I did this, first I circled D, but then I changed it, so frustrating :-(
